Why Vote?

I encourage everyone to vote, even if you are not voting for me. I have read countless times in the editorials of the Calgary Herald about people complaining about this and that, but only 19% of Calgary decided to vote in 2004, so the apathetic attitude does not translate well after elections. It is once every three years, so just take 15 minutes and go vote. There should be no point in complaining if most people in Calgary decided not to exercise their right to vote. Some have also argued that our current mayor was given a mandate with 80% of the votes. 80% of the 19% of Calgarians is not a mandate. A mandate would be 50% of at least 50% of those voting. So if you did vote, that is not good enough. Encourage your friends and families to go vote, because it actually is important. I am running partially to get my friends and families to vote for me, so that in the future they may do so even if I am not running. It is important and I welcome as many potential candidates who have decided that taxes and voting are actually important.

Identification

In all honesty, there were people who decided to rig the 2004 elections in Ward 10, so now people have to come to an election with identification. It is not a big problem, but it highlights a sad history in elections. You may bring any of the following to the polls as identification, as listed on the City of Calgary website:

  • Canadian Driver's or Operator's Licence
  • Canadian Passport
  • Canadian Military Identification
  • Birth Certificate
  • Baptismal Certificate
  • Alberta Personal Heath Card
  • Alberta Identification Card
  • Certificate of Canadian Citizenship
  • Firearms Licence Possession Only
  • Firearms Licence Possession and Acquisition
  • Veteran Affairs Canada Card
  • Old Age Security (OAS) Card

Candidates

As part of my campaign to inform electors and voters when they go to vote, I am offering links to all candidates who are running for alderman or mayor. This is an unprecedented move in which may not benefit me, but it will benefit the voters when they find their perfect candidate. Please choose a candidate and vote! This is an important time in Calgary!
