Taking the JR train to Saga Arashiyama then walking for about 10-15 minutes, you can reach this small town with the beautiful bamboo pathway. The pictures below show how fascinating this place is. Arashiyama also has a lot of parks, eateries, and bodies of water to enjoy as well. Crossing the Togetsu-kyo bridge, one can get to the equally fascinating Iwatayama monkey park. It’s quite a steep climb but well worth the hike. These are relatively friendly and tame Japanese macaques that you can get close enough to take pictures, or go inside the resting room to feed them. You also get a great panoramic view of Kyoto from the park as well.
